I have been the Head of Data & Search for 6 weeks, working in Emma Allen’s Digital Development team. It is a new role, and I’m fortunate because it’s something that I wanted to do for a while.
This week we held the first gathering of Parliament’s Digital Portfolio board. This is a group of senior leaders from across Parliament who are charged with ensuring that we deliver Parliament’s digital portfolio.
Holly is the Deputy Head of Public Information in the House of Commons. Holly was invited along to join a team consisting of staff from the Digital Service, our partner fluxx and other House staff from the Lords and the Commons in a two day rapid prototyping event called “Rapid Start.”
Last week, data visualisation specialist Andy Kirk presented the final talk of the year in Parliament’s series of seminars on Exploring Digital. The session explored the challenges of visualising data effectively and the approaches practitioners could take to meet them.
Last week we were lucky enough to have Tom Standage, deputy editor of The Economist, come into Parliament to talk about digital strategy and the future of news in a digital world.
Since the beginning of the year, the Parliamentary Digital Service has played host to a series of seminars entitled Exploring Digital. The idea is to bring together in Parliament, thought leaders in the digital space with parliamentary staff and Members.
Last weekend saw Parliament joining forces with the National Audit Office (NAO) and The Office for National Statistics (ONS) at Accountability Hack #AccHack14, as part of Parliament Week, working in partnership with Rewired State.
