Weeknotes: Alpha Web Team 20/05/2016

There was plenty of activity around Parliament this week as Wednesday was the State Opening of Parliament. Caroline and Nara managed to witness it in person and even sneaked into the background of the official photos.

The week started with a successful ‘Show and Tell’ and planning for sprint 2. We decided to focus on understanding Parliamentary business and data/domain exploration.

The team had a session with Michael, Silver and Kevin around domain modelling the passage of a (public) bill. Michael has also started to think about urls around members.

Giuseppe, Rebecca and Jack have been looking at setting up our front-end prototype kit. Rebecca and Giuseppe have also been talking with Samu from the data team about collaborating more and exploring potential new data formats.

Kheira interviewed a public affairs consultant and has been analysing interviews conducted with specialists. Kheira and Giuseppe also took down the discovery post-it notes from the wall (we finally admitted we had post-it overload!).

Steve has continued to work on “docker in AWS” using Docker Swarm and Consul.

There was also a team visit to the NHS Beta team and Ganesh, Nara, Samu, Trung and Dan went to ONS Digital in Newport to see Matt Jukes to learn from his experience as product lead on the ONS website. Dan says “It was a great day - the team picked up a huge amount, many similarities and lessons to learn. We'll work on a blog post and possibly a briefing for the team and beyond. Matt Jukes is coming to visit us before too long as well.”

Finally Jack and Rebecca are feeling inspired after visits to the London Web Standards accessibility event ‪#lwsA11y on Monday and the Government accessibility community event #gova11y on Thursday.
