PDS is hiring!

Image from our recent PDS rapid start prototyping eventI’m looking for people to join our digital development team and help us build exceptional digital services that place Parliament at the forefront of digital democracy the world over.

It’s been three months since I joined the Parliamentary Digital Service, and it’s fair to say that the time has flown. Much of it has been spent getting to know my new team and colleagues, understanding how I can help them get stuff done and learning about Parliamentary processes. I’ve sat in on PMQs, shadowed a Hansard reporter and been part of the team reporting back on the Speaker’s Commission on Digital Democracy.

I’m also building a plan for the future. It’s important that this plan covers not just what we will deliver (a new website, for instance), but also how (openly, based on user needs, data driven, for example) and describes who we’ll need to work with to help us achieve our goals (by bringing in new roles, or working with external partners).

We’re not starting from scratch. The Digital Service is a year old, but we’re growing our ambitions in terms of what we deliver to our users, be they public, Members of Parliament, the Lords or colleagues. We’ve already got the foundations of a brilliant digital strategy for Parliament, we’ve kicked off some UK-wide user research (MUCH more of this to come) and we’re building some new products rapidly too, with our colleagues in both the Commons and the Lords. Oh, and there’s a team of talented people already here too, busy developing digital services like Hansard (transcript of Parliamentary debates) and data.parliament.uk, and keeping our website and social media flowing.

Parliament is an intoxicating place to work, a heady mix of politics, democracy, digital and increasingly across both Houses, a real sense of awareness of how we engage with the public and our users. People here work fantastically hard across a range of totally different professional disciplines and backgrounds. I find that inspiring and energising, and now I have the opportunity to invite others to help us build on the considerable successes and talent of colleagues already here.

Want to help build excellent digital services for a modern Parliament? Join us!

We’re looking for people who:

  • thrive off working in multi-disciplinary teams
  • are motivated to make things better for people
  • work collaboratively and share knowledge generously
  • value diversity, accessibility and usability
  • deliver

Does this sound like you? We’ve got a number of specific roles open right now, so if you think that you’ve got what we’re looking for, then apply.
